Former TCU and Texas A&M Head Coach Signs Multi-Year Deal

Story Impacting Baseball Nation

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas has hired Jim Schlossnagle as its new head baseball coach, the school announced Tuesday night. Schlossnagle, who previously led Texas A&M to a College World Series championship, brings a wealth of experience and success to the Longhorns program.

Schlossnagle, 51, has compiled a career record of 830-402-5 (.675 winning percentage) in 19 seasons as a head coach at TCU and Texas A&M. He has led his teams to 12 NCAA Tournaments, including seven Super Regionals and three College World Series appearances.

Schlossnagle is a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and was named the National Coach of the Year in 2017 by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He has also coached several All-Americans and Major League Baseball draft picks.

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said Schlossnagle was the "right fit" for the Longhorns program.

"Jim is a proven winner who has a track record of success at both TCU and Texas A&M," Del Conte said. "He is a great teacher of the game, and he knows how to get the most out of his players."

Schlossnagle said he was excited to join the Longhorns and build on the program's success.

"Texas is a baseball powerhouse, and I am honored to be a part of this tradition," Schlossnagle said. "I can't wait to get started and help this team reach its full potential."

Schlossnagle will replace Mike White, who was fired earlier this month after seven seasons as the Longhorns' head coach. Texas finished 33-28 overall and 12-12 in the Big 12 Conference this season.
