Alex De Minaur Advances to Roland Garros Quarterfinals

De Minaur Grinds Down Medvedev

Alex De Minaur has reached the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros for the first time in his career after defeating fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev in a hard-fought four-set match, 6-2, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

The Australian broke Medvedev's serve seven times and saved 10 of the 14 break points he faced to earn the victory in three hours and 45 minutes.

De Minaur will face Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals, who defeated Cameron Norrie in straight sets.

Medvedev, who was aiming to reach his third consecutive Roland Garros quarterfinal, was unable to find his rhythm against De Minaur, who was relentless from the baseline.

The Russian was also hampered by a left foot injury, which he aggravated in the third set.

De Minaur, who is now 6-2 against Medvedev in their head-to-head, said he was "very happy" to reach the quarterfinals for the first time.

"I've been playing really well this tournament, and I'm just happy to be able to keep it going," De Minaur said.

Medvedev said he was "disappointed" to lose, but that he was "proud" of his effort.

"I gave it everything I had, but Alex was just too good today," Medvedev said.

The Roland Garros quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday, with De Minaur facing Rublev and Rafael Nadal facing Novak Djokovic.
